Christopher Beer is a curator, artist and arts worker who has made his home in Houston, Texas. He earned his BFA in Studio Art from Michigan State University in East Lansing, MI and his MFA in Curatorial Practice from Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, MD.

Beer’s practice engages audiences through exhibition and artmaking, explores collaborative strategy, and develops sustainable live/work/make practices and interdisciplinary ways of being. He has maintained a curiosity for local and regional art making practices throughout his career. Past projects include a special exhibition at SOFA Chicago, analyzing plastic bag waste on the environment (2012), a fellowship at Mildred’s Lane, collaborating with J. Morgan Puett and others to create the Labor Portraits Series (2014), and an exhibition for the Holocaust Museum Houston’s Butterfly Project co-developed with Christopher Tribble on display at the United Nations in New York, NY (2018). He has curated contemporary exhibitions in Houston with Simmer Projects: Changing States of Matter at Box13 (2018) and Interior Interruptions at Sabine Street Gallery (2019). He has exhibited his artwork nationally and internationally. He was awarded a Certificate of Plenipotentiary by Mildred’s Lane founders Mark Dion and J. Morgan Puett (2014). His work was featured in the Baltimore Sun (2015) and Forbes Magazine (2018). He currently serves as curator of The John L. Nau III Collection of Texas Art, engaging artists, personalities, and histories that define the lore of Texas.
